Nutcracker - cast iron

Beautiful and characterful vintage/antique mechanical nutcracker, fully executed in heavy quality cast iron with a warm, patinated bronze finish. This unique nutcracker is shaped as a detailed squirrel on an elegant, ornate base that evokes a natural log or rock bottom. The notches in the foot are not only decorative but also serve to neatly catch the cracked nutshells.

Operation:
The mechanism is as ingenious as it is decorative. By moving the squirrel’s tail upward, the forepaws open. When the tail is pressed downward, the paws close with great force to crack the nut effortlessly. A wonderful example of a historic tool that is both functional and an absolute showpiece on the coffee table or in a cabinet of curiosities.
