Description from the seller
From Omega, the legend of Swiss luxury watchmaking, this is the classic Genève Automatic Date (Ref. 166.070), uniting mechanical excellence with timeless dress-watch proportions. Widely celebrated by collectors for housing one of the brand's most robust and reliable automatic movements—the copper/rose-gilt finished 24-jewel in-house Omega Caliber 565 featuring a swan-neck micrometer regulator—this piece comes with a solid stainless steel case crafted by historic casemaker Centrale Boîtes (CB), a professionally refinished glossy deep black dial, a framed date aperture at 3 o'clock, and the convenient pump quickset mechanism, presenting a balanced, noble, and versatile vintage wrist presence.
Technical Specifications
Brand / Model / Reference: Omega Genève Automatic Date – Ref. 166.070 (Circa 1969–1970, Swiss Made)
Movement: Authentic Swiss-made, 24-jewel (Twenty-Four 24 Jewels), copper-finished in-house Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement. The rotor and bridges are cleanly stamped with "OMEGA WATCH Co SWISS", "TWENTY-FOUR 24 JEWELS", Cal. 565, and movement serial number 2985xxxx. The 29.8 million serial range dates production to approximately 1969–1970.
Features a gold-framed date window at 3 o'clock.
Operates the signature Caliber 565 "pump" quickset mechanism (repeatedly pulling the crown out to the outer position advances the date instantaneously by one day), functioning properly as intended.
Case Dimensions & Profile: Approximately 37 mm including the winding crown (approx. 35 mm excluding crown / vertical lug-to-lug length approx. 41 mm). Its sharp downturned lugs, circular satin-brushed top bezel plane, and domed crystal lend a clean, balanced dress presence on the wrist. Case thickness and profile contours can be inspected in the side photographs.
Case & Crown Structure: Solid stainless steel (Acier Inoxydable) case construction bearing the prestigious Centrale Boîtes hallmark (CB). Fitted with a genuine knurled steel winding crown embossed with the Omega logo. Due to age and regular use, honest vintage hairline scratches and light period-appropriate handling marks are present across the brushed top surface, polished flanks, lugs, and steel caseback.
Caseback: Original notched solid stainless steel screw-down back. The exterior face features period-correct circular brushing and the "WATERPROOF" engraving. The interior face is stamped with "ACIER INOXYDABLE", the Omega triangular hallmark "OMEGA WATCH Co - FAB. SUISSE - SWISS MADE", the "CB" casemaker mark, and reference stamp 166.070.
Dial and Hands: A deep black dial that has been professionally repainted/refinished (redial) in the past. Appointed with an applied gold-toned Omega emblem, white "OMEGA AUTOMATIC", "Genève", "T SWISS MADE T" script at 6 o'clock, faceted gilt baton hour markers, and matching gold-toned dress hands.
Strap & Buckle: Fitted with a brand-new, high-quality black lizard-grain leather strap with tonal stitching, secured with a stainless steel pin buckle. Please note that the strap and buckle are non-original (aftermarket).
