AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Summer landscape with a birch avenue
Atmospheric, light-filled landscape depiction. In the right and middle foreground runs a characteristic birch avenue along a winding path. The view opens to the left over gently rolling hills and fields beneath a lightly clouded summer sky. The work captivates with dynamic yet harmless natural lighting and a noticeably thick application of color. (Note: On the reverse, there is also a faded handwritten name entry “Swaran Thakur,” presumably a former owner/collector).
Artist: Signed J. Block (attributed to Joseph / Josef Block, 1863–1943).
Country of origin: Germany
Year of appearance / dating: ca. 1910–1930
Period: Classical Modernism / Early 20th century
Style: Impressionism / Post-Impressionism (Secession style)
Technique: Oil on cardboard / panels on board
Dimensions:
Visible size: 26.9 cm × 33.4 cm
With frame: 36.8 cm × 43.5 cm
Condition: Very good, well-maintained overall condition. The painting shows a lovely patina, a stable paint layer and no obvious damage. The contemporary, profiled wooden frame with gold edge shows only slight, age-related traces.
Shipping: Will be securely packed for transport and shipped insured.
