Description from the seller
This original artwork by Bart Hamelink, titled Green Shark, is a powerful and minimalist painting in which simplicity, color, and character come together.
Central in the elongated composition is a large green shark, built up from simple, angular shapes. With its pointed fins, open mouth and small round eye, the creature has a striking, almost playful appearance.
The intense green color forms a beautiful contrast with the warm, off-white background. By omitting superfluous details the shark receives all the attention and a powerful, graphic image emerges.
Green Shark plays with the contrast between power and simplicity. The shark is normally a symbol of danger, speed and survival drive, but in this painting it gains a friendly and humorous look. The work shows how an impressive animal can acquire a distinct personality with only a few shapes.
The deliberately simple lines, geometric shapes and strong color usage reflect Hamelink's recognizable artistic style. The painting combines almost childlike directness with a modern, contemporary look.
Green Shark is a striking artwork that, due to its elongated format and strong color, stands out particularly well in both modern and industrial interiors.
The painting is made with acrylic paint on canvas and is a unique, original artwork, not a reproduction or print. The work is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Note: The interior photos are purely mood pictures and show how the artwork can look in an interior. Colors may differ slightly from the original due to lighting and photography.
Because of its size the painting will be carefully rolled and securely packaged in a sturdy, square shipping tube, so it remains well protected during international transport.
The artwork is delivered without the depicted frame and without a wooden stretcher frame.
Seller's Story
Hamelink combines contemporary themes with influences from the past and often works in an energetic, expressive style. He draws inspiration from the tradition of artists such as Herman Brood, who was known for his raw, spontaneous approach, as well as Riek van Iersel, who sought a powerful emotional expression in his work.
Hamelink is best known for his paintings and drawings, in which he pushes the boundaries of traditional painting and tackles themes such as identity, culture and social issues. His work can be characterised by a direct, unpolished approach to the medium, which exudes a certain spontaneity and energy. Like Brood and Van Iersel, Hamelink plays with the tension between personal experience and the broader social context, often with a focus on contemporary society.
His style is often raw, unfiltered and full of expression, using powerful colours and dynamic shapes that enhance the urgency of his themes. Bart Hamelink seems to bridge the gap between traditional expressive movements and contemporary art with his work, while at the same time critically reflecting on modern times.
