Description from the seller
Pastoral autumn landscape at the thatched cottage
Magnificent oil painting on a wooden panel by the British landscape painter listed Robert Mann (active 1869-1892). The work depicts a finely executed autumn rural scene, capturing a misty and soft light characteristic of the British countryside in the 19th century. The textured impasto in the foreground and the handling of depth attest to the artist's complete mastery.
The work is signed "Robert Mann" at the bottom left.
Provenance and History:
On the reverse, the panel bears an old collection label from the famous Galerie Beisac (Wiesbaden), confirming its historical passage through recognized art circuits during the 20th century.
The painting is enhanced by its period frame in wood and gilded stucco with rococo scrolls and stylized foliage (Barbizon style).
Condition
The work on panel is in very beautiful overall condition. The frame shows an authentic old patina with minute losses of gilding or signs of wear acceptable for its age, not altering in any way the superb appearance of the whole.
