Characteristics of the workmanship
• The "Scavo" technique:
This particular finish imitates the corrosive and matte effect of time typical of Roman archaeological finds unearthed from the ground. It is achieved by dispersing on the molten surface (at about 800°C) a mixture of salts, mineral powders, oxides or ashes that chemically attack the glass, creating the typical rough and translucent patina.
• The filaments and the "Vortex" effect: The whitish and bluish filaments visible inside the cobalt blue mass are not defects, but controlled reactions of the chemical powders or the application of thin threads of glass paste or "milk".
During rotation and blowing by the master glassmaker, these inclusions stretch and arrange themselves radially, emphasizing the circular shape of the base and creating a suggestive dynamic spiral effect.
• Type: Artistic vase for collection, soliflore model (one-flower).
• Style: Neo-Roman / Archaeological.
• Central body: The stem is slender and tapered, made of translucent glass with white and grayish tones. The matte surface finish simulates the scavo effect, recreating the typical corrosion of ancient glass left buried in the ground.
• Decorative elements:
• Spiral detail: A thin filament of cobalt blue glass is wound heated around the neck of the vase.
• Handles and Base: It features three small handles symmetrically applied with scroll motifs and a circular pedestal foot, all made of glossy cobalt blue glass in contrast with the body’s opacity.
Condition Report
From the analysis, the object presents in excellent vintage condition.
No obvious chipping is visible on the delicate blue applications or along the upper edge, preserving the original structural integrity.
