Description:
A refined and striking "cartouche" (rocaille) vase in fine hard-paste porcelain, a superb example of mid-19th century Paris craftsmanship (circa 1850–1870), fully attributable to the eclectic style of Jacob Petit.
The piece stands out for the complexity of its rocaille shape, characterized by asymmetrical scrolls and jagged edges echoing the dynamism of 18th-century Rococo. The body is enhanced by the iconic "Bleu Céleste" background, made famous by Sèvres, which creates a masterful contrast with the rich, raised 24k gold gilding, still vivid and bright.
Pictorial Details (Double-sided):
The vase features two hand-painted reserves of extraordinary quality:
Front: An idyllic pastoral scene depicting a young traveler in period attire, set within a bucolic landscape rendered with meticulous chromatic detail.
Back: A refined musical "trophy" depicting a mandolin intertwined with sheet music and floral garlands, a symbol of art and harmony.
Technical Sheet:
Origin: Paris, France (Vieux Paris).
Period: 19th Century (c. 1850).
Material: Fine, resonant, and translucent hard-paste porcelain.
Dimensions: Height 21.5 cm | Width 22.2 cm | Depth 14.5 cm.
Weight: Approx. 985 g.
Condition: Excellent state of preservation. No chips, no hairline cracks, no restorations. Gilding intact with a very slight and noble patina of time.
