Wine is a natural product that can undergo changes in taste and color during decades of storage. Therefore we cannot guarantee drinkability or flawless taste of old wines. However, we handle the purchase of these wines with the utmost care, ensure optimal storage conditions, verify the bottle history where possible, and conduct visual checks of the bottle contents for cloudiness and changes in consistency.
As mentioned, older, matured wines often change their original taste during decades of storage and may develop a mature character. White wines tend to darken in color (resembling cognac, sherry, or amber) and can form sediment; red wines often have a sediment at the bottle bottom. A different appearance and tasting experience compared with younger wines is not unusual for aged wines. For wine lovers who have issues with the sometimes fresh, pronounced acidity of young wines, aged wines can be a real pleasure, as the wine’s acidity loses strength and aggressiveness over the years.
