Ferdinand Keller (1842 Karlsruhe – 1922 Baden-Baden) is among the most important German history and portrait painters of the late 19th century. Today his works are represented in major museums, including the State Art Gallery Karlsruhe and the National Gallery Berlin.

After study trips to Rome – where he closely associated with the circle around Anselm Feuerbach – he was appointed to the Academy of Arts in Karlsruhe in 1870, where he was named professor in 1873 and served as director from 1880 to 1913. Keller received numerous official commissions from Kaiser Wilhelm II as well as from the Grand Ducal House of Baden.

Description of the work:
A striking and academically masterfully executed portrait of a lady in classical/mythological attire. The depicted woman wears an elaborate wreath of grape leaves in her hair, as well as richly designed gilded necklace and a bracelet. The artwork is stylistically typical of Keller’s work from the 1870s, heavily influenced by the Italian Renaissance and Anselm Feuerbach.

The old painting has already been professionally cleaned and restored. It is in good condition with signs of age.

From my German private collection, an extraordinary highlight for any art collection: the rare opportunity to own a large work of Ferdinand Keller.

Shipping methods:
Shipping is carried out very securely, professionally packaged, and by insured parcel with tracking number, or can also be collected in person.

(Note: Because of the large overall dimensions, the package is shipped only within Europe. Shipping costs outside Europe can exceed €300 and will be charged separately. Therefore the package will not be shipped outside Europe.)
