Description from the seller
“A Flame Beneath the Water” XL is a visual artwork by Nik Haku that captures the surreal beauty of a world suspended between depth and light. A solitary figure drifts beneath the ocean’s surface, enveloped in a vivid orange gown that unfolds like a flame burning underwater. Its flowing fabric moves through the deep blue, transforming the stillness of the sea into a moment of weightless intensity. Above her, light fractures through the surface, illuminating a silent encounter between vulnerability and freedom, presence and disappearance.
Artist’s statement:
This piece is a meditation on surrender and transformation. I wanted to capture the moment when we let go of gravity, of control, of everything that anchors us to the world above. Beneath the water, the body becomes weightless, and the boundaries between movement and stillness begin to dissolve. The orange dress becomes a fleeting flame in the blue abyss, a symbol of the light we carry even in our deepest moments. It is about finding freedom in the unknown, and discovering that sometimes, letting go is another way of becoming.

About the artist:
I’m Nik Haku, a visual artist and photographer exploring the space between the real and the altered.
My practice blends multiple techniques —primarily fine art photography, complemented by painting— to construct images that move fluidly between mediums. My work spans portraiture and landscapes, beginning with photographic capture and evolving through painting, AI, and digital manipulation. I aim to create visual worlds where memory, identity, and imagined space overlap, dissolving the boundaries between what is seen and what is felt.
