Description from the seller
Antique Volkstedt porcelain figural group – inn scene with three figures and a dog
Exceptionally decorative German porcelain figural group, Volkstedt/Thüringen, richly and completely hand-painted in polychrome colors.
The lively scene shows three men around a table in an inn-like setting. Two standing figures with pipes address the seated man in the middle, who sits with his head in his hands at the table. On the table are two small jugs and a bowl. Under the table sits a beautifully formed little dog.
The figures wear striking historical costumes with large hats, cloaks, vests and boots. The porcelain is richly painted in greens, purples, reds, blues and browns, complemented by gold-colored details. The faces, hands, folds of clothing and several small attributes are particularly finely sculpted.
The backside is also fully worked and painted, making the group around it attractive from all sides. The whole rests on an oval naturalistically shaped pedestal, finished with a gold-colored trim.
On the underside there is a blue porcelain mark, consistent with production from Volkstedt/Thüringen, Germany.
Dimensions: approx. 16 × 17 × 11 cm high.
Condition: very fine condition. See the extensive photos for the condition and the many refined details; these form an important part of the description.
A charming and very detailed porcelain figural group with a humorous, narrative scene, appealing to collectors of German porcelain, Volkstedt and antique figural groups.
