Description from the seller

Frida - 02 (n.761) - Dolls series
The measurements are:
- collage: 50.00 cm x 40.00 cm
Acrylic painting on shredded paper on canvas

I create paintings using acrylic colors and thousands of small pieces of recycled paper: everyday paper is transformed into art instead of ending up in the trash.

This work represents a conceptual evolution of the artistic project "Not your doll," a series born to explore and denounce the objectification of women and gender-based violence.

Through a meticulous mosaic made entirely from fragments of recovered everyday paper and reused to create art, the icons of art history are deconstructed and reassembled.
The iconic figures, images of women observed and idealized, are here stripped of their aura of passive perfection.

Historically, the figure of the woman in art has often been reduced to a silent muse, a "doll" of aesthetic perfection shaped to please the gaze of others.
With these works they stop being the Renaissance "dolls" to be admired and become living figures, literally rebuilt from fragments of everyday reality, of news and the words of every day life.
No longer objects of others’ gaze, but fragmented and powerful presences inviting the viewer to look beyond the surface of aesthetics.

A piece with a strong visual and social impact, ideal for contemporary collecting attentive to themes related to the role and image of women in society.

With Frida I address a different and complementary aspect: she is the ultimate representation of anti-doll. She has always self-represented herself by challenging the male gaze, displaying her imperfections and categorically rejecting the canons of idealized beauty.
Reconstructing her face through this chaotic multitude of recovered paper fragments accentuates her complex and stratified identity. The technique used marries wonderfully with the visceral and imperfect strength of the character.

Each piece is securely packaged, wrapped and protected for shipping and will arrive in a completely safe package, including the Certificate of Authenticity.
I use the courier provided directly by Catawiki.
Some delays may be caused by customs clearance at borders.
Shipping takes about 7 days; about 10 days for non-EU countries.

Different light sources can give different colors to the photos.
In the case of works that I frame directly, the dimensions may vary slightly as I personally prepare the wooden frame, stretch the canvas and mount it on the frame.

Born in 1974 I am self-taught.

After an initial period dedicated to sculpture there was a long stop of almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I resumed with the "two dimensions" due to time and space, setting sculpture aside and dedicating myself to acrylic paintings.

I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I have been pushing myself to paint faces of people both imaginary and actually existing.

To me painting is "freezing time" in that exact moment; a painting of mine is often a faded memory and therefore my works are "worn, eroded by time". Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are glimpses of walls also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that – over time – grow on the surface.
Time that passes inexorably is the main theme of my works.

Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs well perceptible to the touch and to the naked eye.

In this recent period, after several years during which my works were made from tiny pieces of recycled paper forming figures, I am pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden disks arranged in lines and grids repeated with mathematical rigor that, seen up close, seem to form an abstract, colorful painting but the more you move away the more a portrait emerges made of many disks of painted wood.

Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to report the fact that they are not their partner’s dolls and cannot be mistreated or worse, victims of violence.
