Description from the seller
Traditional Japanese Wooden Jingasa – Samurai Hat – Black and Vermilion Painted Finish with Gold-Coloured Circular Motif
A beautiful example of a traditional Japanese wooden Jingasa, featuring a distinctive black exterior, a gold-coloured circular motif, and a striking vermilion-red interior.
Jingasa are traditional Japanese hats historically worn by samurai, retainers, and foot soldiers. They were used during travel, military duties, and ceremonial occasions, particularly during the Edo period (1603–1868).
This particular example is made of wood and features a broad, shallow, circular form.
The exterior has a smooth black-painted finish, decorated with a prominent gold-coloured circular motif. The underside is finished in traditional vermilion red, creating an elegant contrast between black, red, and gold.
Several metal fittings remain attached to the interior, possibly associated with the original fastening or head-support arrangement. A black painted character or mark is also visible on the underside.
The combination of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, historical design, and aged appearance makes this an interesting collector’s item.
