Description from the seller
Generous Damask Linen Napkins with Hand-Embroidered Petit Point Initials
A handsome set of six generous damask linen napkins, offering a combination of sturdy linen, a distinctive woven pattern and delicate hand embroidery with the initials A.B..
Originally part of a set of eleven napkins, I have decided to divide them into two smaller sets, which I feel makes more sense for today's dining habits. The remaining five napkins are also being offered in this auction, should you wish to acquire both lots and reunite the original set.
The background damask is known as damien, a French term referring to its checkerboard pattern. This understated geometric design provides an interesting contrast to the single white petit point cross-stitch embroidery, which has been carefully worked by hand and adds a subtle decorative detail.
Made from sturdy linen and particularly generous in size, these napkins combine practicality with the understated elegance of traditional French table linen.
A charming set for those who appreciate the quality, character and craftsmanship of antique linen
