Karin Székessy's original print Eine Allee in Holstein (1969), a heliogravure, edition 6/30, signed in pencil by the artist, 46 × 57 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Atmospheric original printed graphic by the internationally renowned German photographer and photartist Karin Székessy. The work is titled "An Avenue in Holstein" and was created in 1969. The print was produced as a masterful heliogravure (Lichtdruck) on heavy, high-quality artist’s handmade paper and is personally signed and numbered in pencil by the artist in the lower section. The work is in very good, collectible condition with no creases, cracks, or stains.
Székessy is, without exaggeration, among the “Grand Dames” of German contemporary photography. Beauty and sensuality form central themes of her work. This is especially evident in her unmistakable female portraits and nudes. Székessy’s distinctive art lies in portraying the women in her images as never appearing naked, even when undressed they never seem naked, always surrounded by an aura of the unblemished. In addition—and especially in earlier works—photographs with almost cinematic, reportage-like character belong to her oeuvre as do impressive artist’s portraits.
Recently, from May to July 2025, there was a large retrospective at the Kunsthalle Lüneburg.
Karin Székessy passed away at the end of May 2025 at the age of 87.
