Description from the seller
Camille Rousseau — Holidaymakers Beneath the Summer Sky
Camille Rousseau, a French painter born in Paris in 1949, develops an artistic universe devoted to seaside scenes and the elegance of stays by the sea. His style, inspired by impressionism, is characterized by a free brushwork, a luminous palette and particular attention given to the atmosphere of beaches and to the figures of holidaymakers.
In this work entitled Holidaymakers Beneath the Summer Sky, the artist depicts a group of vacationers gathered on a sandy beach. Some figures are seated while others stand or exchange a few words. In the foreground, a small dog rests on the sand, while a child dressed in bright colors draws the eye to the center of the composition.
The pale blue sky, animated by delicately worked clouds, occupies an important place in the scene and contrasts with the warm tones of the sand. The figures are sketched with expressive touches that suggest clothing, attitudes and the animation of the group without overburdening the composition. The whole evokes the simple charm of a day of vacation by the sea.
Despite its small format, this painting has a lively composition and a beautiful wealth of details. Its ornately gilded and patinated frame highlights its classical character and helps it settle easily into any interior.
