Description from the seller

Interesting oil on canvas of a French school from the late 18th to early 19th century, depicting a young hunter girl in a lush landscape, accompanied by a dog.

The work is part of the French transitional painting tradition between late Rococo and the Neoclassical taste, still preserving the elegant, decorative, and amiable character typical of 18th-century painterly gallantry. The female figure is shown in a dynamic pose, holding a bow and accompanied by a quiver, iconography that recalls representations of Diana the huntress and pastoral and mythical scenes so appreciated during this period.

The composition stands out for its oval format, the richness of the vegetation, the movement of the figure, and a warm and harmonious palette, with predominance of pinkish, greens, ochres, and bluish tones. The brushwork is loose and decorative, especially evident in the flowers, foliage, and fabrics.

The work is presented with an important antique carved and gilded wooden frame, in Louis XVI taste, decorated with vegetal motifs, garlands, rosettes, and elements inspired by classicism, which markedly enhances the ornamental character of the whole. The frame has wood-boring insect holes, which have been treated, maintaining its stability.

The canvas is in generally good condition considering its age. It currently shows a slight looseness or lack of tension, so it could notably improve with a small stretch carried out by a professional. This circumstance does not prevent a proper reading of the work. It may show small signs of use, wear, old restorations, or craquelure typical of its age.

From a private collection.

The frame is included as a gift, with no added commercial value. Due to its age it may present faults, wear, small restorations, signs of ancient wood-boring insects, or other time-related marks. The frame’s condition will not be a ground for complaint.

Photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a close appreciation of the real conservation state of the work.

The piece will be shipped with professional packing, made with protective materials suitable for artworks, ensuring maximum safety during transport.

For shipments outside the European Union, the buyer should consider that any possible duties, taxes, import charges, customs procedures, or any other cost arising from the destination country’s legislation will be the sole responsibility of the buyer. Delivery times may also be affected by each country’s customs procedures.

An attractive decorative and evocative work, representative of the French taste of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, especially notable for its oval composition and its prominent presentation in an antique frame."
