Description from the seller

The technique developed by Ibrahim Ballo, born in Mali in 1986, combines acrylic painting with cotton threads, playing with the ideograms of traditional Malian fabrics. The cotton threads knotted on the surface of the canvas create a high relief. In refined language, the artist thus lends grandeur to this ordinary material with ancestral artisanal value, and pays tribute to traditional weavers (the environment in which he grew up), in a world that is increasingly digitized. Not without humor, the artist made a point of paying homage to the Venus de Milo, an antique and singularly mysterious beauty.

Ibrahim Ballo graduated in Plastic Arts from the National Institute of Arts of Mali (2012). He holds a Master in Plastic Arts from Conservatoire des arts et métiers multimédia Balla Fasseke Kouyaté of Mali and was awarded the Sahm ateliers prize in visual arts – painting – on the occasion of the 6th edition of the International Meeting of Contemporary Art (RIAC) Congo-Brazzaville – Direction: Dakin Dagara, art historian (2017). He lives and works in Bamako, Mali. Since 2019, he has been regularly invited to exhibit in France and has participated in the AKAA international fair (Also Known as Africa).

This work is presented by the Saga association, which acquired it directly from the artist. It is possible to pick up the painting on site or to receive the canvas rolled.
