This lot of fine Right Bank Bordeaux wines features two bottles of Château Canon-la-Gaffelière, a prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé renowned for the excellence of its clay-limestone terroir. This selection includes one bottle from the 1971 vintage and a second bottle from the 1981 vintage, offering a remarkable opportunity for a comparative tasting across two different decades. These properties, then under the stewardship of the Comtes von Neipperg family, deliver merlot-dominant blends complemented by cabernet franc, famous for their great longevity and aromatic complexity. Regarding the condition, both bottles bear witness to an authentic and prolonged aging process within a cellaring environment, each displaying a thick layer of greasy cellar dust patinated by time on their dark glass. The original labels are entirely complete and sound, with no missing parts or tears. The 1971 bottle shows a pronounced yellowing with widespread dirt and damp stains across its surface, while the 1981 bottle displays a regular natural yellowing along with a small vintage white rectangular hand-written price label affixed to the shoulder. The original red metal capsules are intact, tightly sealed and display normal light surface wear. For both bottles, the wine level is perfectly situated at the high shoulder, which represents an excellent preservation level for wines of this age.
