Italian school (XVII) - Cristo nell’orto degli ulivi - cm 116x156

Ancient Italian painting from the second half of the seventeenth century. An oil on canvas work of Genoese school depicting a religious subject, Christ in the Garden of Olives, of good painterly hand. The painting is adorned with an antique, non-contemporary carved wooden frame patinated in walnut tone, with pleasant decoration. The work develops horizontally, of large size and impact, for antiquarians and collectors of ancient sacred art.

In the center of the composition we find Christ in prayer, his eyes turned toward the angel who offers him the chalice, a symbol of the Passion. Beside Christ, on the ground, lie the sleeping disciples. The work has undergone an intense conservative-restoration intervention, retouching, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in several points (see photos). Overall the painting is in good condition with signs of restoration. Dimensions of the painting: H 96 x L 136 cm.
