Description from the seller
Japanese porcelain tea service for 6 people – blue-gold decor with lithophane – probably ca. 1930–1960
Decorative Japanese porcelain tea service for six people, probably from the mid-20th century, circa 1930–1960.
The service combines bold blue color fields with gold ornaments and multicolored image motifs. The representations show Japanese landscapes, figures in traditional clothing, flowers, and cranes. Ornamental borders as well as gold accents on handles and rims complete the design.
A special feature are the lithophane portraits in the bottoms of all six cups: held to the light, a geisha portrait becomes visible in the translucent porcelain.
The bulbous teapot features a curved bail handle, a matching lid, and a removable, perforated tea infuser. A milk jug, a sugar bowl, and plates are finished in the matching decor.
