Beautiful and highly decorative set of 7 volumes from the famous "Classiques Garnier" collection (Garnier Frères, Paris), published between 1958 and 1972. These reference editions are widely praised for their academic apparatus (texts reviewed against the original editions with introductions, historical variants, notes, and glossaries by renowned scholars).

Uniform publisher's bindings in half-chestnut calf/ blonde sheepskin with smooth spines richly gilt with romantic/Empire-inspired tooling, brown/green spine labels, and marbled paper boards. The interiors are abundantly illustrated with reproductions of historical engravings, drawings, portraits, and for-plate facsimiles.

Condition: Very good overall. Fresh, white, and accident-free interiors. Sturdy bindings, clean boards, slight, superficial rubbing at a few crown or joint areas, not serious. A very elegant library set.
