Description from the seller
Hand-painted canvas depicting the seascape "La Pointe de Kerner" - 2026
This captivating work illustrates a vibrant maritime landscape, where a colored boat floats peacefully near the coast. Bold strokes of red and green bring the boats to life, contrasting with the calm sea of a deep blue. In the background, two old houses stand proudly at the water's edge, surrounded by slender trees that seem to dance with the wind. The dynamic brushwork lends a rich, expressive texture to the foliage, while the bright sky adds a warm atmosphere.
The artist uses very pronounced black outlines to delimit each color area. This technique recalls the synthetism of the Pont-Aven School in a Fauvist style。
The colors are laid down in clear, saturated, unmixed flat areas. The palette combines warm tones in the foreground—ochre, orange, red—with cool tones in the background—deep blue, green, pure white. This choice provides strong visual energy.
Painting by Breton artist Yves Decaudan - 1954
Yves Decaudan's work sits in a figurative, colorful vein, heavily influenced by Fauvism and the Pont-Aven school, with a particular attachment to coastal scenes of Brittany.
His works regularly depict moments of calm, reading, or outdoor reverie in a maritime setting where time seems suspended.
The artist's work is characterized by expressive, poetic figurative art, driven by a keen sense of color and the synthesis of shapes. The artist favors pure, intense color fields—such as this deep blue set against brilliant red—creating an immediate, luminous visual tension.
The elements of the decor are outlined and simplified, going straight to the essential without dwelling on anatomical detail or strict realism, which brings his work closer to Fauvism or art posters. His subjects, often solitary and maritime, convey a sense of stillness, serenity, or suspended daydreaming.
Through backgrounds worked with texture or sprinkled with light brushstrokes, he establishes a poetic depth rather than a geometric one.
Paintings exhibited in numerous private collections in Europe, North America, Africa, and Oceania, canvas shown at the Paris Autumn Salon - 2022
