Plan C is a 1939 watercolour in Expressionism from the Netherlands by H.A.C. Paradies, 40 × 60 cm, signed, original edition, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Painter H.A.C Paradies.
Herman Cornelis Adolf Paradies (14 September 1883 – 22 January 1966), in the art world known as H.C.A. Paradies or erroneously H.A.C. Paradies, was a prominent Dutch painter, watercolorist and draftsman. He is remembered as a master of the impressionist-realist cityscape, who in a unique way captured the historical atmosphere of Rotterdam and Schiedam.
Biography and Background
Paradies was born in Rotterdam. His father did not see a career in art, which led him initially to work as a plasterer and house painter. Eventually he worked for many years as a painter and decorator at the well-known shipyard Wilton-Fijenoord in Schiedam.
His passion, however, lay in the visual arts. In his spare time he pursued studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Art, by the way, ran in the family: Paradies was a first cousin of the famous Rotterdam maritime painter Johannes Hendrik van Mastenbroek, whose work shares a close affinity with his own.
