Description from the seller

Johannes Josephus (Jan) Hovener (14 August 1936 – 10 February 2021) was a versatile and prolific Dutch painter. He is best known for his lively, impressionistic style and his fluid, thickly applied brushwork.
Biography and Early Success
Hovener was born in Rotterdam. His artistic career began in a craftsmanlike way: he started as a Delft Blue faience plate painter at the world-famous pottery factory De Porceleyne Fles in Delft. To elevate his painting to a higher level, he studied at the Academy for Visual Arts in Rotterdam. His talent was noticed early. In 1959 he won the prestigious Talens Prize. The renowned Willem Sandberg, then director of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, praised a self-portrait by the young Hovener and described him as an artist with an "incredible vision", especially given his young age at the time of the beginning
