« Architecture Impossible », 2007
Oil on panel, 120 × 90 cm
Signed and dated bottom right « .kesta.07. », monogrammed bottom left
Frame: made by the artist in plastic (simple clear frame)
Condition: minor losses and visible signs of wear (see photos); the piece remains remarkable, with a strong composition and a striking presence.
Description
A large geometric abstract composition in XXL dimensions, built as an impossible architecture. Against a background of angular plans in orange, green, yellow, brown and black, white, gray and black structures—beams, arches, hollow volumes and cantilevered elements—interlock in a complex play of conflicting perspectives.
The optical effect is strong: the volumes seem to float and cross in space, creating a sense of depth, movement and labyrinth.
A small discreet red accent punctuates the whole and reinforces the visual tension. The color is laid down in dense flat areas; the brushwork remains visible, black structures rhythm the composition.
The work evokes Escher's constructions, Op Art, and a city or a mental architectural complex. Powerful, decorative and stimulating, it imposes itself on a large wall.
Biography
Former student of the Ecole Boulle and the Decorative Arts, Jean-Louis Dhuit was a art director at ORTF before settling in Étagnon, near Ambert (Puy-de-Dôme). Under the name Kesta, he develops a personal body of work where geometric and optical abstraction takes central place, alongside gestural series, landscapes and figures. Regular exhibitions in the Livradois.
