AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bible; That is the whole Holy Scripture. Containing all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments. By the grace of the High Mighty Lords States General of the United Netherlands and according to the decision of the National Synod. Held at Dordrecht in the years 1618 and 1619. Translated from the original languages into our Dutch language faithfully. With newly added explanations at the darker passages, annotations of the parallel sounding texts, and new indexes for both Testaments. And corrected for printing errors and misstatements found in the first print by common order of the Dutch churches. Dordrecht, P. Keur; Amsterdam, P. Rotterdam, 1716/1720. 2o. (48)332(4)144;(28)169;(4)58p.

• Old States Bible with complete marginal notes
• With 5 original accompanying maps
• Restored spine. Bible suitable for use.
• Fine copper fittings

Beautiful leather binding with ribs and blind stamps. The binding is presumably from the 19th century. The copper corners are original. The clasps are of later date. Endpapers have been renewed once. The block is gilded on the edge. Some spots here and there. Otherwise a good book block. The New Testament and the Apocrypha books are from 1720.
With 5 old maps. The maps are engraved by D. Stoopendaal. They print well. A few tears have been repaired. Otherwise in good condition. The maps in order:
1. The map of the location of Paradise
2. The travels of the children of Israel from Egypt
3. The map of Jerusalem
4. The map of Israel during the wanderings of the Lord Jesus
5. The map of the landscapes the apostles traveled through.

In this copy there are also several pages bound with engravings. Engraved by D. Jonkman. On each sheet there are 6 engravings. They have a sharp print.

The Bibles issued by the Keur family are known for their quality. In 1664 Jakob and Hendrik Keur took over the printing house of their stepfather Jacob Braat. Because printing State Bibles was a costly investment, the Keur brothers printed a large portion in collaboration with an Amsterdam printer. First M. Doornick. Later with his nephew Pieter Rotterdam.
The last Keur Bible was printed in 1756 and that was also the last (or one of the last) printed State Bibles. (Bible printed by order, and with the consent, of the States.)
