Description from the seller
LAWLER Louise (1947).
American photographer born in Bronxville, New York. Louise Lawler positions herself in the field of study of the processes of creation and display, active since the 1970s. She most often photographs artworks at their owners (collectors) or in museums, displayed or in the process of hanging or installation. Lawler is a leading figure of this movement often called "appropriationism." She is part of this generation and this approach also represented by Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, or Laurie Simmons. These works are present in the world’s great museums, notably the Guggenheim or the Whitney in New York, in France at the Centre Pompidou.
The work offered here is a large print on cream vellum-type paper, signed on the front, from a portfolio published by the Whitney Museum of New York. This portfolio contained poems by Gini Alhadheff, Brendan Gill and Daniel Halpern. It contained 3 photographic prints by Lawler, only one signed (this one) as well as lithographs by Sol LeWitt and Richard Artschwager.
The portfolio originates from the USA, in perfect condition, the Louise Lawler print is also in perfect condition (never framed or handled).
