Moussia Toulman (1903–1997) was a Jewish Ukrainian-born painter, poet, and art critic associated with the famous École de Paris. Born in Ouman, she emigrated at the age of 19 to Israel where she began her artistic career by joining the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, from which she graduated in 1926. Eager to further her training, she settled permanently in Paris in 1929, joining the Société des artistes indépendants. Her work is characterized by classical landscapes, still lifes, nudes, and expressive portraits. Deeply engaged, she founded the collective “l'Art Organisation” alongside Mane-Katz and Jacques Atlan to strengthen cultural ties with Israel and to support Israeli creators visiting Paris. Alongside her paintings, she also expressed herself through poetry and wrote art criticism articles. She passed away in Paris in 1997, leaving behind a multidisciplinary and international artistic legacy.
