Moussia Toulman (1903–1997) was a Jewish Ukrainian-born painter, poet and art critic associated with the famous School of Paris. Born in Ouman, she emigrated at the age of 19 to Israel where she began her artistic career by joining the Bezalel Academy of Jerusalem, from which she graduated in 1926. Eager to further her training, she settled permanently in Paris in 1929, joining the Société des Artistes Indépendants. Her work is characterized by classical landscapes, still lifes, nudes and expressive portraits. Deeply engaged, she founded the collective “l’Art Organisation” alongside Mane-Katz and Jacques Atlan to weave close cultural ties with Israel and to support Israeli creators passing through the French capital. In parallel with her paintings, she asserts her voice through poetry and by publishing art criticism articles. She died in Paris in 1997, leaving behind a multidisciplinary and international artistic heritage.
