Moussia Toulman (1903–1997) was a Jewish Ukrainian-born painter, poet, and art critic associated with the famous School of Paris. Born in Ouman, she emigrated at the age of 19 to Israel where she began her artistic career by joining the Bezalel Institute in Jerusalem, from which she graduated in 1926. Eager to perfect her training, she settled permanently in Paris in 1929, joining the Société des Artistes Indépendants. Her work is characterized by classical landscapes, still lifes, nudes, and expressive portraits. Deeply committed, she founded the collective “l'Art Organisation” alongside Mane-Katz and Jacques Atlan in order to weave close cultural ties with Israel and to support Israeli creators passing through the French capital. Alongside her canvases, she makes her mark with poetry and the publication of art criticism articles. She dies in Paris in 1997, leaving behind a multidisciplinary and international artistic heritage.
