Two original printing plates/clichés for Suske en Wiske: de kaartendans (1962) by Willy Vandersteen, published by Standaard Uitgeverij, each 19 cm by 6.5 cm and in excellent condition, with two unique exemplars in the lot; the album page image is shown for illustration only and the article itself is the printing plate.
Description from the seller
For sale are two original printing plates/clichés (French-language) of Suske en Wiske: De kaartendans from 1962. It was number 46 in the two-color series and was released in the four-color series (the one starting with Poenschepper as number 67) as number 101 in 1970.
They are unique specimens; there is only one of each printing plate.
This concerns a highly recognizable scene from the album.
Willy Vandersteen sketched the Suske en Wiske stories at that time; the story itself was inked by Eduard de Rop. The album itself is not included; the photo of the page belonging to the printing plate is added purely for illustration. It is only the printing plate for this lot.
Explanation: from a Suske en Wiske drawing a negative was made. This negative was laid on a metal plate onto which a light-sensitive layer was applied. By exposing the negative, the light-sensitive layer hardens at the places where the negative is transparent; where the negative is black the layer remains soft. The plate was dipped in an acid bath. The acid eats away those parts of the metal plate where no hardened layer is present. These parts of the metal plate become lower; they do not print because they are not inked. The raised parts remain intact and print.
A "Suske en Wiske cliché" is such a beautiful original metal printing plate on which the drawn Suske en Wiske drawing is applied as a negative image (i.e., a mirror image), after which this printing plate was used to print the drawing. See the scan of the final publication, which is purely for illustration. A true centerpiece.
The item will be sent by registered mail.
