Scena pastorale con figure, an oil painting on canvas by Italian school from the 19th century, depicting a bucolic landscape in Romantic style, hand-signed, measuring 47 by 40 cm and sold with frame.
Description from the seller
With frame:
40x47cm
Without frame:
27x33cm
This painting represents a bucolic and idyllic landscape of classical inspiration, characterized by elements typical of pastoral genre painting widespread in Europe between the 17th and 18th centuries.
Analysis of the work
• Subject: The scene shows figures of wayfarers and shepherds resting in a green valley, in the shade of a large tree on the right. In the background one notices ancient stone structures and fortifications of medieval or Renaissance flavor, perched at the foot of a group of blue mountains under a partly cloudy sky.
• Style: The style strongly recalls the tradition of the Roman ideal landscape (inspired by masters such as Claude Lorrain or Gaspard Dughet) or Venetian painting of the 18th century (such as the landscape compositions of Giuseppe Zais or Marco Ricci). This type of composition united the realistic depiction of nature with idealized architectural elements, creating scenes of a calm and Arcadian character.
• Condition and Frame: The work is set in a thick, molded frame with a bi-color finish, which pairs gold inserts with a walnut-colored band or dark cherry.
