Description from the seller
For sale is an exceptional, large bronze sculpture of a kneeling Thai temple guardian Thepphanom in a traditional prayer pose.
The impressive figure is depicted on both knees and holds her hands together at her chest in the traditional Wai gesture. This stance symbolizes respect, reverence and devotion, and is a distinctive feature of Thai Thepphanom representations.
Particularly striking are the tall, tapering crown, the intricately crafted headpiece, and the richly decorated jewelry on the neck, arms and wrists.
The traditional clothing is adorned with numerous finely worked floral and geometric ornaments. The back of the figure has also been elaborately designed and shows decorative embellishments on the back and on the clothing.
The green patina of the bronze forms a particularly beautiful contrast with the gold-colored decorations and gives the sculpture an impressive presence.
With its stately size of 50 cm and its weight of almost 5.5 kg, the figure is a decorative collectible of Asian art.
