Description from the seller
Lot Title
Antique Wooden Mallard (Wild Duck) – Folk Art – circa 1930/1940
Subtitle
Hand-carved and hand-painted hunting decoy with a beautifully aged patina - 25 cm
Description
For auction: A distinctive and authentic antique wooden mallard drake decoy, dating from the period 1930–1940. This piece is a beautiful example of early 20th-century folk art and hunting history. The duck is fully hand-carved from solid wood, as evident from the artisanal saw and plane marks on the flat base. The underside also shows the original wooden seal/stop of the hollow construction.
The painting is extremely detailed, with a characteristic deep green head, ochre-yellow beak, and a finely speckled feather pattern on the back to imitate a real wild duck.
Through weather, wind and actual use during early duck hunting, this piece has acquired a fantastic, well-worn patina. The paint wear (flaking) and the visible wood give the object a unique historical appearance that fits perfectly in a country, industrial, or curiosa interior.
Specifications:
• Species: Wild duck / Mallard (drake)
• Material: Hand-carved wood
• Period: Circa 1930–1940
• Dimensions: Length 25 cm
• Condition: In good antique condition with signs of aging and authentic paint loss consistent with the age (see photos for an accurate impression).
This lot will be packed with the utmost care and globally insured shipping with track & trace.
