Wine is a natural product that can change in taste and color over decades of storage. Therefore we cannot guarantee the drinkability and faultless flavor of old wines. However, we handle the purchase of these wines with the utmost care, confirm optimal storage conditions, check the bottle history where possible, and also conduct visual checks of the bottle contents for cloudiness and changes in consistency.
As mentioned, older, matured wines change their original taste during long-term storage and may develop a mature character. White wines often darken (similar to Cognac, Sherry or amber) and can develop sediment; red wines commonly form sediment at the bottle bottom. An appearance and taste experience different from young wines is not unusual with aged wines. For wine enthusiasts who have issues with the sometimes fresh, pronounced acidity of young wines, aged wines can be a real pleasure, as the wine’s acidity loses strength and aggressiveness over the years.
