Description from the seller
We are auctioning this special watch Bulova Frank Sinatra Collection 2026.
Bulova and Frank Sinatra have shared a long history. There have been numerous collaborations between the Brand and The Voice, who has never hidden the fact that Bulova watches were his favorites.
Not by chance, the Frank Sinatra Show was sponsored by the Brand and was known as “Bulova Watch Time.” A artistic partnership that the American company materialized in the Bulova Sinatra Collection, launched in 2020, which over the years has been enriched with numerous references.
Initially inspired, in name, by some of Sinatra’s immortal hits and, in aesthetics, by the 1950s and 1960s models often worn on the crooner’s wrist, the Bulova Sinatra Collection watches have evolved over time, while still retaining a mechanical heart that has lasted until today. With the latest expansion of a collection that benefits from the collaboration of the Frank Sinatra Foundation.
That Bulova has a close link with the great American music of the second half of the last century is also confirmed by the watch dedicated to Tony Bennett. With Sinatra, however, the relationship is closer and longer-standing.
The new watch of the Frank Sinatra Collection echoes, in its balanced and essential lines, a historic model from 1967, called Banker C and as elegant as the famous Fedora hat The Voice used to wear. As in the references of previous collections, here too the inspiration comes from music: not so much from a single song as from a collection of tracks published in 2008, ten years after the artist’s death: Nothing But the Best.
The steel case measures 37 mm in diameter and is 10.25 mm thick. The shape is tonneau but the dial is round, as it was in the Banker G to which the watch refers. For this piece of the Bulova Sinatra Collection, the Maison conceived a dual finish of the case, gold-colored or steel, with a buckle in the same tone. Of the two, the gold one is, in my view, decidedly more interesting; by working well on form and finishes and on a balanced overall aesthetic, Bulova has managed to avoid a vintage or “grandfather clock” look, giving this piece a contemporary and elegant appearance.
Also to its credit is the dial, on which the most significant work was done and which, in effect, is the most interesting part of the entire watch. In the version with a steel-colored case it is white, in the gold-colored version it is silver: but it is not so much the color choice that is meaningful as the finishing. Bulova adopted the so-called crosshair dial, widespread precisely in the 1950s and 1960s, rendered in a personal and original way.
The crosshair dial was mainly distinguished by a graphic detail: a central cross that divided it into four wedges, as if it were a cake. Here, the cross is absent and the division into wedges is achieved through alternating guilloché decoration, vertical in one sector and horizontal in the adjacent one. In this way, the whole piece gains movement, elegance and depth. The latter is accentuated by the Fedora silhouette incised in bas-relief at 6 o’clock. A symbol of the singer which, in the previous watches of the Bulova Sinatra Collection, we find stamped.
In terms of movement, Bulova has kept in mind its vocation to produce watches with a strong aesthetic impact and reliability, paired with an affordable price. In the case is the caliber 8215, automatic derived from Miyota, i.e., the Citizen Group to which Bulova belongs. The movement runs at 3 Hz (21,600 alternations/hour), has a unidirectional rotor, the date function and about 42 hours of autonomy.
