We are presenting at auction an oil painting on panel by Tonino Manna.
The work with its frame measures 59 cm in height and 41 cm in width. The artwork alone on panel measures 50 cm in height and 32 cm in width.
Provenance: private collection of our family.
Tonino Manna - Sant’ Antimo (1952 - 2022)
Tonino Manna began as a portraitist and figurative painter, an identity that remains constant over time even when his production reveals openings toward a palette and a technique closer to Impressionism. His works tell scenes of daily life, family moments, landscapes, still lifes, and portraits characterized by strong psychological sensitivity.
His production is deeply rooted in the Neapolitan tradition, with settings that evoke nostalgic atmospheres: shaded alleys, street vendors, popular figures, small groups caught in their authenticity. Manna succeeds in capturing the vibrant spirit of his subjects without ever idealizing them, keeping alive the emotions and naturalness of their gestures.
His chromatic rendering, personal and immediate, allows him to transform reality according to an intimate, almost meditative vision, which restores dignity and poetry even to the simplest aspects of everyday existence. Nature, in his works, is represented as bearing an intrinsic message, almost sacred, expressed through sincere, direct painting technique that echoes the essentiality of the old master-artisans of the Quattrocento.
