"Paesaggio con Borgo e Figure - NO RESERVE", a XIX century oil painting on canvas from Italy, attributed to a follower of Jan Brueghel the Elder, measuring 76 by 63 cm and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Landscape with a village and a scene of daily life – oil on canvas, 19th century, attributed to a follower of Jan Brueghel.
The composition depicts a characteristic northern-influenced village, animated by figures engaged in daily activities, domestic animals and horses arranged along a dirt road that winds between old houses with sloping roofs. Dense vegetation shades the foreground, creating a striking contrast with the illuminated façades and with the architectures that recede into the distance, up to the elegant bell-towers that emerge from the background.
The perspective framework, built through the progressive diminution of the architectures and the gradation of light values, guides the viewer’s gaze toward the heart of the village. The arrangement of figures, animals and everyday objects gives the scene a narrative character, recalling the tradition of genre painting and animated landscapes.
The palette, ranging over warm earth tones, deep greens and delicate luminous accents, conveys the quiet atmosphere of the village. The lively brushwork and the care devoted to the details of rural life evoke the muted sounds of the street and the slow pace of daily life, turning the view into a evocative testimony of custom.
Originates from a Tuscan residence.
Accompanying the work is a newer, more patinated frame, as an homage.
Dimensions: 76 cm x 63 cm.
