Description from the seller

Now available at auction from Second Vintage

A classic 1970s square-cased Genève with a striking vertically brushed dial. This configuration offers a distinct period aesthetic, defined by its cushion geometry and highly textured silver face. The strong contrast of black accents against the brushed finish provides excellent legibility and a sharp visual identity.

Brand: Omega
Model: Genève
Reference Number: 162.0042
Serial Number: 34778546
Movement: Automatic
Dial: Silver with vertical brushed finish and black accents
Case Size: 32 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless steel
Production Year: 1972
Condition: Excellent vintage condition.

Dial and Hands
The silver dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, defined by a pronounced vertical brushed finish that provides strong texture. Applied silver-tone indices feature black inserts, complementing the applied Omega logo and the framed date window positioned at three o'clock. The surface remains free of visible spotting or damage. Time is indicated by black stick hands and a matching black sweep seconds hand. The handset finish remains intact with no visible corrosion, contrasting perfectly with the bright dial for clear legibility.

Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a distinctive square cushion shape, characterized by a polished bezel area and brushed flanks. The watch displays honest wear consistent with age, retaining defined geometry while showing visible scratches and minor dings on the edges and lugs. An integrated polished bezel frames the dial and exhibits light surface scratches. The caseback is exteriorly blank, showing surface scratches, while the interior is appropriately stamped. The watch is fitted with an original signed Omega crown featuring well-defined knurling. Above the dial sits a domed acrylic crystal with a raised square profile, remaining clear with no significant scratches or crazing visible.

Movement
Inside the case resides the copper-colored Omega automatic Caliber 1481. The plates and bridges appear generally clean. The rotor shows some surface wear and light scratches, and clearly displays the engraved serial number. This mechanical movement is equipped with a push-date function, allowing the date to be quick-set by pressing the crown.

Strap
The timepiece is paired with a black textured leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The material appears to be in very good condition with minimal wear, offering an attractive presentation that complements the black accents on the dial. The strap accommodates a comfortable fit on the wrist.

Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally clean and beautifully preserved. The case retains its defined cushion geometry but exhibits honest wear, including visible scratches and minor dings on the edges and lugs, along with surface scratches on the bezel and caseback. The movement rotor shows light scratches and surface wear.

Dimensions
Case Size: 32 mm (excluding the crown)

Remarks
This Genève presents a compelling opportunity to acquire a distinctly styled 1970s Omega. The beautifully preserved vertical brushed dial, the characteristic square case design, and the presence of the original signed crown make this a highly attractive vintage watch.

History
The Omega Genève reference 162.0042 was introduced to the international collection in 1972. Embracing the design language of the era, the model features a square cushion or "TV screen" shaped case. This reference is powered by the Omega Caliber 1481, an automatic mechanical movement notable for its push-date function, which allows the wearer to advance the date rapidly by simply pressing the crown. The Genève line was an important pillar of Omega production during this period, and this specific configuration delivers a strong representation of 1970s watchmaking aesthetics.
