Icon - Mother of God - Wood

Traditional Orthodox icon of the Mother of God with the Child Jesus. This specific iconographic type is based on the Hodigitria ("She who shows the way"), but due to the intimate embrace and the cheek-to-cheek posture it also displays strong characteristics of the Eleusa type. It is made in the late 20th century in the traditional, ancient Greek-Byzantine style on a solid wooden panel with an intentionally rustic, carved edge finish to give it an aged appearance and beautifully finished with gold leaf. The dimensions are 40 x 30 cm. Weight 1.3 kg.
