Karin Székessy, Atelierszene, heliogravure print, signed by the artist and numbered 16/30, 46 × 56 cm in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Atmospheric original lithograph by the internationally renowned German photographer and photographic artist Karin Székessy. The print was produced as a masterful heliogravure (light print) on heavy, high-quality artist's rag paper and is personally signed and numbered in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. The work is in a very good, collectible condition with no creases, cracks or stains.
Székessy is without exaggeration to be counted among the "Grandes Dames" of German contemporary photography. Beauty and sensuality form central themes of her work. This is especially evident in her unmistakable female portraits and nudes. Székessy’s distinctive art is to portray the women in her images, even when naked, as never thereby appearing naked; she is always surrounded by an aura of the unapproachable. In addition, though especially in earlier works, photographs with a nearly staged, reportage-like character belong to her oeuvre as well as impressive artist portraits.
Recently there was a major retrospective from May to July 2025 at the Kunsthalle Lüneburg.
Karin Székessy died in late May 2025 at the age of 87.
