Domaine Coste-Ubesse Moja Negra 2023, 6 bottles of 0.75 L.
Description from the seller
6 bottles from Domaine Coste-Ubesse, Moja Negra 2023 cuvée in Pic Saint Loup.
Coste-Ubesse's wine comes from two neighboring plots of Syrah totaling barely 3 hectares and cultivated organically. This parcel situated in the commune of Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers in Hérault is a rocky, clay-limestone hillside on marls, oriented to the north (Ubesse = Ubac, meaning north in Occitan).
“My grandfather Eugène, walking through his vines, taught me to observe the cicadas, like wed to the bark of a strawberry tree, Holm oak, or a great Aleppo pine. The rockroses, cistus, rosemary, and scrub of the garrigue are here the companions of the vines. They drive their roots beyond the calcium pebbles into the soft clay of Coste-Ubesse, the north-facing slope. This orientation tempers the killer heat of the summer sun, the hillside shelters the plants from sudden winter onslaughts. Everything here favors a tranquil growth to full maturity of the grapes that make my wines.”
“According to my research, the Reboul family have been winemakers from father to son without interruption since 1700 (I could not go further back…). A sign of destiny, they were at the time owners in Saint-Pargoire, the town on which we bought a few hectares of vines with Jean Luc to complete the Coste-Ubesse estate at Pic Saint-Loup…”
“A 100% Syrah–Grenache cuvée with spellbinding scents of licorice and vanilla, long on the palate, which aged two years in barrels before bottling.”
Magnificent.
