Description from the seller
This original artwork by Bart Hamelink, titled Busy Life 13, is a playful and expressive painting in which the busyness, chaos, and versatility of daily life are central.
The composition features a notable assembly of figures, strange faces, animals, and recognizable symbols. Large eyes, jagged shapes, and exaggerated facial expressions crisscross and intertwine, forming a lively and imaginative whole.
Among the figures one can discover, for example, an airplane, a sun, and several small characters. Each element seems to tell its own story, while the overlapping black lines connect everything together.
Busy Life 13 symbolizes the world we live in. People, thoughts, emotions, and events continually cross each other’s paths. Sometimes everything seems chaotic and difficult to discern, but it is precisely within that busyness that remarkable encounters, connections, and unexpected moments arise.
The powerful black lines create a striking contrast with the soft background in Warm Grey (Warm Grey), color number 718. This warm, subtle gray gives the painting a calm and natural appearance, allowing the expressive figures to stand out even more.
For the background, Amsterdam Acrylic – Warm Grey 718 was used. The combination of this warm shade with the spontaneous, almost childlike drawing style results in a contemporary artwork where simplicity, humor, and expressiveness come together.
The deliberately imperfect shapes and playful composition reflect Hamelink’s recognizable artistic style. Despite the apparent chaos, the whole forms a special composition in which the viewer can continually discover new details.
Busy Life 13 is a striking artwork that, thanks to its bold black lines and warm background, fits exceptionally well in both modern and industrial interiors.
The painting is made with acrylic on canvas and is a unique original artwork, not a reproduction or print. The work is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Note: The interior photographs are solely mood images and show how the artwork can come to life in an interior setting. Colors may differ slightly from the original due to lighting, photography, and monitor settings. The background color used is Warm Grey 718.
Due to its size, the painting will be carefully rolled and securely wrapped in a sturdy, square shipping tube to remain well protected during international transport.
The artwork is delivered without the depicted frame and without a wooden stretch frame.
Seller's Story
Hamelink combines contemporary themes with influences from the past and often works in an energetic, expressive style. He draws inspiration from the tradition of artists such as Herman Brood, who was known for his raw, spontaneous approach, as well as Riek van Iersel, who sought a powerful emotional expression in his work.
Hamelink is best known for his paintings and drawings, in which he pushes the boundaries of traditional painting and tackles themes such as identity, culture and social issues. His work can be characterised by a direct, unpolished approach to the medium, which exudes a certain spontaneity and energy. Like Brood and Van Iersel, Hamelink plays with the tension between personal experience and the broader social context, often with a focus on contemporary society.
His style is often raw, unfiltered and full of expression, using powerful colours and dynamic shapes that enhance the urgency of his themes. Bart Hamelink seems to bridge the gap between traditional expressive movements and contemporary art with his work, while at the same time critically reflecting on modern times.
