Description from the seller
This unique Lagavulin 16 Year Old Fèis Ìle 2017 (56.1%) is a special single malt released to celebrate the annual Fèis Ìle music and whisky festival on the Scottish island of Islay.
What makes this release special?
• The finish (Moscatel casks): Instead of the classic bourbon or sherry casks used for the standard Lagavulin 16, this whisky underwent double maturation in casks that previously held Moscatel (a sweet dessert wine). These casks came from the sister distillery, Caol Ila.
• Personally selected: All casks for this edition were hand-picked by Iain MacArthur, Lagavulin’s legendary and beloved warehouseman, who enjoys cult status among whisky fans.
• Cask Strength: It was bottled at a cask strength of 56.1% ABV, without chill-filtration and without added caramel coloring.
• Production run: Only 6,000 bottles were produced worldwide; at the time, they were sold exclusively at the distillery itself during the Fèis Ìle festival. This is bottle number 1237.
• Flavor profile: Thanks to the Moscatel finish, Lagavulin’s signature powerful, oily Islay peat smoke combines with unexpected notes of dried fruit, orange peel, spices, nuts, and a distinctively sweet undertone.
