Description from the seller

Author: Christo (1935-2020)
Title: The Floating Piers, Project for Lake Iseo, Italy
Dimensions: 33 x 25.5 cm
Year: 2016
Conditions: New (never framed)

The Floating Piers was a famous temporary land art work created by the artist Christo (in collaboration with his late wife Jeanne-Claude) on Lake Iseo, in Italy, from June 18 to July 3, 2016. The installation consisted of a network of floating piers covered with a shimmering yellow-orange fabric, which allowed over 1.2 million visitors to literally walk on the water, connecting the mainland (Sulzano) to Monte Isola and to the private island of San Paolo.

The work was conceived initially by the artist duo in 1970, but found its ideal location on Lake Iseo only many years later, becoming Christo’s first large outdoor project completed after Jeanne-Claude’s passing.

Visitors were invited to walk the installation barefoot to perceive the undulating movement of the water and the warmth of the sun on the fabric. Like all of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s large works, The Floating Piers was fully funded by the artist through the sale of his preparatory drawings, and at the end of the 16 days, all components were completely removed and recycled."}
