Lalique crystal bird sculpture titled Moineau Moqueur Chanteur, a transparent sparrow in Art Deco style from France, dating to 1950–1960 and in new unused condition, measuring 10.5 cm deep, 8 cm high and 6 cm wide with a base signed ‘Cristal Lalique France’ and weighing 15.5 oz.
Description from the seller
This Lalique bird figurine was designed by the creator of the famous French glass, René Lalique.
This is a very early post-war issue, clearly a brighter edition with more depth to the accents. See the last photo for comparison with the later version on the right.
Lalique designs were strongly influenced by nature and mythological figures, with birds being a favorite subject. This Lalique bird is molded in the form of a satin-finished sparrow set on a small rectangular base. The design dates to 1930 and is titled 'Moineau Moqueur Chanteur', which translates as 'Curious Sparrow'. The bird is depicted in a warning pose with its chin tilted up and facing to the right. The sparrow has been realistically modeled with well-defined feathers on its body. The tail feathers are also perked up in the air and fanning outward, exposing the plumage beneath.
The bird stands 3.5 inches high from the surface of the display to the top of the tail feathers, while the body of the bird is 4.5 inches long and 2.5 inches at its widest point. The base measures 1.625 x 1.25 inches, and the bottom bears an etched signature "Cristal Lalique France" in arch.
15.5 oz weighs the bird.
This attractive crystal sparrow figurine is beautifully presented and would make a great addition to a Lalique collection or work just as well as a standalone decorative accent.
