Description from the seller
Bel ensemble of 5 volumes from the 19th century, comprising the four volumes of the Complete Works and a fifth volume entitled Supplement, dated 1834.
This illustrated edition announces 104 engravings in chiaroscuro, including portraits, after drawings by contemporary artists. Several engravings are reproduced in the photographs, notably Le Cinq Mai, L’Alchimiste, Les Infiniment Petits and Prédiction de Nostradamus.
The set also includes printed musical scores, with staves, notes and lyrics, as well as a table of airs, particularly interesting for the history of French song.
The five volumes feature matching antique bindings, with blue covers and black spines richly adorned with gold motifs.
Condition: set of good external presentation, with signs of use linked to age. Interiors legible, engravings well preserved on the pages examined. Sporadic browning, sometimes quite pronounced, notably on some title pages. See photographs to assess the precise condition.
A sought-after edition for its literary, historical, iconographic and musical interest.
