Attribution places the work within the plastic environment of Modest Cuixart and the Catalan avant-garde of the postwar period. ㅤ
Modest Cuixart (Barcelona, 1925 – Palafrugell, 2007) was one of the prominent figures of the Catalan avant-garde of the postwar period and a founding member of Dau al Set. His career evolved from roots in surrealist and symbolic approaches toward an informalist painting characterized by material experimentation, gesture, and the incorporation of signs with strong expressive charge.
ㅤ
Composition: Vertical, dominated by a range of browns and blacks over which signs, graphisms, silhouettes and partly recognizable natural forms appear. A large organic form occupies the lower area, accompanied by white, pink and black strokes freely distributed over the background. The whole possesses a marked gestural and symbolic dimension, where the figurative image gradually dissolves into an abstract language.
ㅤ
The painting is presented with an ornate gilded frame, formed by a succession of embossed vegetal motifs that create a pronounced contrast between the classical aesthetic of the frame and the contemporary character of the work.
ㅤ
Observations:
The attribution to Modest Cuixart is presented in accordance with the cataloguing provided and does not imply certification of authorship.
