Dial and Hands
The silver dial is exceptionally well-preserved, featuring a striking vertical brushed texture that interacts beautifully with the light. Applied indices with black inserts provide distinct legibility and complement the crisp printed text. An applied Omega logo and a framed date window at the 3 o'clock position complete the balanced layout. The lume plots, positioned precisely at the outer edge of the indices, show consistent, warm aging and patina. The matching stick hands also feature black inserts, with their luminous tips displaying a patina that perfectly matches the dial plots. Under magnification, light oxidation is visible on the hands, aligning naturally with the watch's vintage character.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel C-shape case displays honest vintage wear, retaining its brushed finish on the top surfaces with polished flanks. The edges remain reasonably defined, while light scratches and handling marks consistent with normal wear are present throughout. A polished smooth bezel frames the dial, showing light scratches. The watch is fitted with a flat crystal featuring a beveled edge, which exhibits light surface scratches visible at certain angles. The knurled crown is signed with the Omega logo and remains in good condition with minor wear. The caseback features a crisp, clearly defined observatory medallion.
Movement
Inside beats the Omega Caliber 1011, an automatic chronometer-certified movement containing 23 jewels, adjusted to five positions and temperature. The movement displays the copper-colored finishing typical of Omega and presents a clean appearance with no obvious corrosion or staining. Both the rotor and bridges are well-preserved. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a rate of +2+5s/day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. It appears unworn or very lightly used, offering a comfortable fit that complements the stainless steel case perfectly.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The dial is highly attractive with a well-preserved brushed texture and matching patina across the lume plots and hands. The hands show light oxidation visible under magnification. The stainless steel case and smooth bezel exhibit light scratches and handling marks, while the case edges remain reasonably defined. The flat crystal shows light surface scratches at certain angles. The movement is clean, well-preserved, and performing strongly on the timegrapher.
Dimensions
The case measures 35mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Constellation offers a highly appealing combination of the celebrated C-shape case design and a beautifully textured vertical brushed dial. The crisp observatory medallion on the caseback and the excellent performance of the chronometer-certified Caliber 1011 make this a compelling example for any enthusiast of 1970s Omega design.
History
The Omega Constellation line has long represented the brand's dedication to precision and refined styling. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the collection embraced the distinct C-shape case geometry originally penned by Gerald Genta, a design language that quickly became emblematic of the era. The Reference ST 168 0056 continues this tradition, powered by the chronometer-certified Caliber 1011 introduced during this period. Known for its reliability and distinct copper-colored finishing, the 23-jewel movement ensured the Constellation maintained its status as a highly accurate, premium timepiece for the discerning wearer.
